Maybe you’ve got a free hour before work to write a new song.
Maybe your lunch break is your first chance to crack open your screenplay.
Or perhaps 6pm is when you’re finally able to steal some minutes to run the new choreography.
Good for you! ANY AND ALL time we find for our creativity is a creative win.
But!
Playing catch as catch can with our creativity overlooks one VERY IMPORTANT detail.
What works FOR OUR SCHEDULES may not work FOR OUR CREATIVITY!
Not all times of day are created equal for the creative process. Some hours we are groggy. It doesn’t matter how luxuriously free we are. Our creativity is OFFLINE!
Other hours we are creatively vibrant! But where are we? Running a few errands? Unwittingly, we give the grocery store the very best of us. Then once we’re home, all we’re up for is Netflix and chill.
Furthermore, different people have different times of day that are best for their creative work. For example, some people are most focused in the first hours of the day. A single morning hour will see better results than an entire afternoon. Other people come alive creatively as the sun sets. In the morning their minds feel dull, but in the slanted twilight, melodies and colors and words course through their pens.
Identifying your best creative hours is one of the ultimate creativity hacks. Get to know yourself in this way, and you’ll be poised to give your creatively not just the quantity, but the quality of time it needs.
