Some Notes on the Muzi Spark

Hello Muzis!

By now you’ve probably seen a Muzi Spark or two.

Here are a few reminders to help you make sense of what you are seeing.

1. Your Spark is not an appraisal of your creative work

It would be easy to see a low score and feel bad about our creative work.

“Oh no, I have low Courage… My work must be timid!”

“Geeze, my Inspiration is faltering… My work must be less relevant than ever!”

But understand: Your Spark is not an assessment of your creative work. It’s possible for someone to have low Courage while doing bold work. It’s possible for someone to have low Inspiration while doing relevant work.

What your Spark DOES reveal is the status of FIVE RESOURCES ESSENTIAL TO CREATIVITY. If you have low scores, take it to mean that with the right support, your work, not to mention YOUR EXPERIENCE OF CREATING IT, will get even better.

2. Your Spark is meant to support you

Even knowing our Spark is a picture of our resources, it’s easy to see low scores and feel chastened.

“Why haven’t I been resting enough!!”

“Why don’t I have more fulfilling creative connections in my life!!”

But your Spark is not here to judge you. Rather, your Spark is like that friend who loves you dearly, knows you deeply, and is willing to have some honest conversations if it means seeing you thrive.

If anything, a low score is SUPPORTIVE. For example, low Rest is permission to take breaks throughout your busy days. Low Connection is validation that yes, you deserve more bolstering when engaging something as complex as creativity.

For those of us who have trouble prioritizing our needs, this sort of mirroring is as affirming as it gets.

3. The Muzi Spark is a picture of what YOU think

Yes, Muzi knows what questions to ask.

But YOU are the one who thoughtfully and thoroughly answers the questions.

Your Spark is not a reflection of what we think so much as a reflection of HOW YOU EXPERIENCE YOURSELF. If you score low on Discipline, you’ve likely experienced yourself struggling with Discipline. If you score high in Inspiration, you’ve likely experienced yourself as flush with Inspiration.

You have more wisdom about yourself than Muzi (or anyone else) ever could. And as you move through your Muzi program you’ll come to know yourself even more deeply — and your Sparks will only grow more accurate.

One last thing!

As a final note, please remember that you are not alone with your Spark. Your Spark marks the BEGINNING of your Muzi journey. Whether your scores are low, medium, or high, Muzi is now primed to get you more resourced than ever.
