There will always be skills we lack.

A technology we don’t know how to use. A technique we haven’t mastered. An approach we’ve never studied.

It’s tempting to resign ourselves to these deficits. We think, “I can’t write jazz because I only know a few chords." Or, “I can’t take my photography to the next level because I don’t understand editing software.”

We see our current skill level as the cards we were dealt. And therefore the cards we must play.

But SO MANY SKILLS are attainable.

We need only sign up for a course. Or apprentice with a colleague. Or ask some questions of a mentor. Or read a book. Or watch some YouTube tutorials.

And then voila! WE are the person we’ve always feared is better suited for our job! WE are the person we were going to have to hire!

It’s a thrill to do something today that we didn’t know how to do yesterday. We delight in our new capacity. Our work thrives with our new options.

Learn new skills as a devotional practice to your creativity.
